Celebrating Black LGBTQ+ Love, Storytelling, and Community
In January in Washington, DC, a powerful conversation took place during the
Creating Change Conference, the nation’s largest annual gathering for LGBTQ+ activists, organizers, and movement leaders. Organized by the National LGBTQ Task Force, the conference brings together thousands of community members committed to education, empowerment, and social justice.
A most impactful moment of the conference was the Rainbow Black Love panel, which followed a featured screening of the documentary Black Rainbow Love. The documentary has been featured at 37 film festivals where it has received 11 awards and special recognitions for it's groundbreaking storytelling. The panel included voices from the film, featuring Alpha Lambda Zeta Fraternity, Inc.'s Honorary Founders, Joy Morgan, Frat Magnificent, and Rasheedah Ladd, Frat Undisputed.
Together, they participated in a space for honest dialogue centered on love, visibility, resilience, and the lived experiences of Black LGBTQ+ people.

The Power of Black Rainbow Love
Black Rainbow Love is a documentary that centers Black queer relationships and community stories with authenticity and depth. It highlights joy, struggle, healing, and connection while challenging stereotypes often placed on Black LGBTQ+ lives.
By bringing this film to Creating Change, the conference elevated storytelling as a tool for liberation, representation, and cultural change. The screening invited attendees to witness love in its many forms and to reflect on the importance of being seen and affirmed.
Angie Harvey’s Vision and Mission Behind Black Rainbow Love
At the heart of Black Rainbow Love is director Angie Harvey, whose work is deeply rooted in visibility, healing, and truth telling within Black LGBTQ+ communities. Angie created the documentary with a clear mission: to amplify authentic stories of Black queer love that are often erased, misunderstood, or reduced to stereotypes.

💬 Conversations That Moved the Room
During the Rainbow Black Love panel, the speakers explored several themes that resonated deeply with the audience.
Representation and Visibility
Panelists discussed why it is vital for Black LGBTQ+ stories to be told by the people living them. Seeing authentic relationships reflected in media helps affirm identity, challenge harmful narratives, and create space for understanding and healing.
Love as Strength and Resistance
The conversation highlighted how love itself is a powerful act within communities that face systemic marginalization. Celebrating Black queer joy, intimacy, and partnership becomes a form of empowerment and cultural resilience.
Community and Connection
Speakers emphasized the importance of safe spaces where Black LGBTQ+ people can gather, support one another, and build chosen family. These connections were described as essential to wellness, survival, and collective growth.

🤝🏿 Why Creating Change Matters
The Creating Change Conference is known for blending activism, education, leadership development, and community care. Through workshops, keynotes, cultural events, and storytelling spaces, it nurtures both personal growth and movement building.
By hosting a panel like Rainbow Black Love, the conference reinforced its commitment to intersectionality and to uplifting voices that have historically been pushed to the margins, particularly Black LGBTQ+ voices.
🌈 A Moment of Visibility and Impact
The Rainbow Black Love panel was more than a discussion. It was a celebration of authenticity, resilience, and connection. It reminded attendees that Black LGBTQ+ love deserves to be honored, protected, and amplified.
Through storytelling, shared experience, and community affirmation, the panel created a moment that will continue to inspire conversations long after the conference ended.
