Breathe Before You Break: Anger Management with Mindfulness

A Minority Mental Health Awareness Month Reflection from Alpha Lambda Zeta Fraternity Inc

Anger is natural. It is human. But for many of us especially in communities of color anger has been both weaponized and suppressed. We have been taught to fear it hide it or let it explode and rarely how to understand and manage it.

As part of Alpha Lambda Zeta Fraternity Inc's commitment to emotional wellness and real healing we continue our Minority Mental Health Awareness Month series by reflecting on the practice of dealing with anger in ways that preserve peace.

This week Frat Magnificent Honorary Founder of Destiny’s R.E.G.A.L. Design Summer ’06 shares grounding insight

“Before I even get to that place of anger I try to breathe and center myself. And if I am angry I ask for a moment because once the words are out you can’t take them back.”

🖤 Anger is a Signal Not a Strategy

We often see anger as something to suppress or something to unleash. But Frat Magnificent reminds us it is neither. It is a signal something that asks for a pause not punishment.

Through regular meditation intentional breathing and self-awareness we can learn to manage anger without losing ourselves. These practices help us recognize what is in our control and let go of what is not.

“If it’s out of my control there’s no reason for me to get angry about it. It’s not going to serve any purpose.”

✨ Tips from Frat Magnificent on Managing Anger

  • Breathe first Use countdowns and intentional breaths before reacting

  • Ask for space Step away if needed to avoid saying things you’ll regret

  • Meditate regularly Stay grounded so you’re less likely to get pulled into emotional chaos

  • Recognize the difference between reaction and response

  • Release what isn’t yours to carry

You are allowed to feel. You are allowed to be human. But you also deserve tools that help you respond with clarity not just impulse. Reset. Breathe. Choose peace again and again.
